We are traveling to Nashville from out of state/country. Can we legally get married here?
Absolutely! Tennessee does not require state residency or U.S. citizenship to get a marriage license. Whether you are flying in from California, driving from Chicago, or traveling from overseas, your marriage performed here is fully recognized legally all over the United States and around the world.

You can apply online ahead of time on the Davidson County Clerk Website to speed up the process. Once you arrive in Nashville, both of you must go in person together to the clerk’s office downtown to sign and pick it up.
• The Best Part: There is no waiting period in Tennessee. You can literally walk into the clerk's office, get your license, and text me to get married on the exact same day!
• Validity: Your license is valid for 30 days from the day it’s issued.
-
When you visit the county clerk, make sure you have:
• A valid, government-issued photo ID (like a Driver’s License) or a Passport.
• Proof of your Social Security number (if you have one).
• If you have been previously married, bring your final divorce decree or former spouse's death certificate just in case.
• Note: Tennessee does NOT require blood tests or birth certificates!

Yes! A marriage license issued by ANY county clerk in the state of Tennessee is legally valid for a ceremony anywhere within the borders of Tennessee. If you are taking a scenic road trip through East Tennessee or the Smoky Mountains on your way to Nashville, you can pick up your license there.

No. The state of Tennessee does not require witnesses to be present or to sign your marriage license. As your authorized wedding officiant, my signature is the only one required alongside yours to make it legally binding. If you want a private, intimate moment just for the two of you, you can have exactly that.

No. Tennessee code is famously strict about this. The state explicitly prohibits online-only ordinations (such as the Universal Life Church or similar internet-based ministries) from legally solemnizing marriages. Having an unrecognized officiant sign your license can put the legal validity of your marriage at serious risk.
Because I am an established, professionally recognized officiant with over 1,600 weddings under my belt, your ceremony is guaranteed to be 100% legally sound.

Once you exchange your vows, we will all sign your license. Couples may return their officiated marriage documents back to the county clerk that issued the license. If you are unable to return these documents in person or by mail (registered mail is recommended for tracking) as your officiant, I can handle the behind-the-scenes legal filing for you with my Concierge Service as an add-on service. This is where I will hand-deliver to Davidson County Clerk (or mail to another Tennessee county clerk that issued your marriage license) the completed license back to the county courthouse within 3 business days to be recorded. The courthouse will then process it and mail your final certified marriage documents straight to your home address.
